The Gilbert Centre is a community-based, not-for-profit, charitable organization that has been providing programs and services in Simcoe Muskoka for over 25 years. The Gilbert Centre, named after a founder Ed Gilbert, not only reflects the change in HIV, but also embraces the expansion of programming to serve lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender individuals and families.

A Resource Guide for Families of Transgender YouthCentral Toronto Youth Services published this second edition guide to offer more tools, resources and information for families to have the strongest possible relationship with their trans youth. In a world where there is still significant discrimination against trans people, providing a safe, loving, supportive home and a strong family bond is crucial. Our hope is that this guide will help families achieve this goal.

Substance use disorders have a greater effect on LGBTQ+ people than on the heterosexual population. The LGBTQ+ community must overcome several obstacles, including being denied substance abuse treatment because of their sexual identity. However, through the proper understanding and accommodation of LGBTQ+ care principles, substance abuse treatment can be successful.
