Applications Now Open for the Glen Newby Scholarship

Simcoe County, ON – The Glen Newby Scholarship Fund, a collaboration between The Common Roof and New Path Youth and Family Services (New Path), is now accepting applications from youth in Simcoe County. A total of $5,000 in scholarship funding is available, including one $2,500 scholarship and two $1,250 scholarships to eligible applicants.

This scholarship is designed to empower youth who have faced adversity by providing financial support to help them pursue post-secondary education or apprenticeship opportunities. It honours the legacy of Glen Newby, the former CEO of New Path, who dedicated nearly 50 years to advancing child and youth mental health in the region. This fund reflects Newby’s commitment to creating supportive environments where young people can overcome challenges and reach their full potential.

“I am pleased to announce the seventh iteration of the Glen Newby Scholarship Fund, delivered in partnership with New Path Youth and Family Services,” says James Thomson, President and CEO of The Common Roof. “Since 2019, the fund has awarded $30,000 to 18 recipients in support of their post-secondary education goals.”

Applications are open until April 30, 2026. Eligible candidates include youth up to 24 years old residing in Simcoe County who are entering or continuing post-secondary studies or apprenticeship programs.

“We are grateful to partner with The Common Roof to provide this meaningful opportunity for youth in our community,” said Jim Harris, CEO of New Path Youth and Family Services. “We are proud to continue to provide financial assistance that helps deserving youth navigate an important life transition and reach their learning goals.”
