Children Mental Health Week 2018

NEW PATH YOUTH AND FAMILY SERVICES CELEBRATING CHILDREN’S MENTAL HEALTH WEEK THROUGHOUT SIMCOE COUNTY

New Path Youth and Family Services (New Path) school based mental health workers are partnering with schools throughout Simcoe County to celebrate Children’s Mental Health Week taking place the week of May 7th – 13th.

New Path has 7 office locations throughout Simcoe County with planned activities at those locations as well as through schools in which New Path provides child and youth mental health services in.

“Children’s mental health week is our opportunity to come together as a community to support one another in ensuring that no child and youth ever feels alone when faced with a mental health challenge,” says Glen Newby, CEO, New Path Youth and Family Services. “1 in 5 children in Simcoe County are affected by a mental health challenge and research shows that early intervention is key. That’s why raising awareness of and building a community of support for those affected is so important. You are not alone.”

1 in 5 Ontario children and youth has a diagnosable mental health concern, and research has proven that early intervention is critical to providing children and youth with a hopeful and healthy future. The services being offered by community-based mental health agencies such as New Path Youth and Family Services are crucial to helping children and youth in our communities overcome their challenges.

“New Path has essentially saved my daughter’s life. I can’t be any more direct than that. By finally having the support of a therapist, who allowed her to talk about the traumatic events that have led her here, to the support of the staff when things get rough, to a program manager who has showed her time and time again that he will not discharge her from the program until she is truly ready to lead a healthy life at home, my daughter has been able to not only stabilize but to flourish.” Trish, New Path Youth and Family Services, Parent of Client.

Children’s Mental Health Week is an initiative of Children’s Mental Health Ontario (cmho.org) and aims to bring awareness to the prevalence of mental health issues throughout childhood, the need for government support as well as to recognize those working in and around kids’ mental health for their hard work and dedication.
